Sünny: A Non Profit Organization Against Pollution

The social issue we decided to focus on would be pollution. Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into our environment, and the amount of these pollutants has increased drastically throughout the years. There are also several types of pollution, like Air Pollution. Air pollution is one of the world’s largest killers, responsible for 6.4 million deaths per year. This means that pollution is responsible for every one in nine deaths, which is a huge percentage of our population. We must not ignore this issue as it is taking mankind down with it.

We chose this issue because most people tend to ignore the fact that our Earth is slowly dying from pollution that is due to human production. It’s a trivial topic that needs to be brought to public attention so we can stop it before the issue gets worse. We hope that our posts will influence someone to make a small change in their daily routine because anything helps towards ending pollution. We also wanted to make these pages to bring information, not profit off of the issue itself, for we strongly support the end of pollution.

Linked below are the social media pages, website, and flyer we created to help spread awareness so something can be done about this issue.

Social Media: A Powerful Force

Social media has impacted society both negatively and positively. It’s like yin and yang, except they’ve been separated by a divorce making it hard for them to find their perfect balance again.

On the negative side, social media can affect one’s self-esteem, and can cause them to develop a sense of self-doubt. This is especially the case within younger generations. For teenagers the combined weight of vulnerability, the need for validation, and a desire to compare themselves with peers forms what she describes as a “perfect storm of self-doubt.” Young people feel the need to be as pretty and rich as the models they see on social media platforms, like Instagram. They slowly become victims of their own imagination since they will drag themselves down when they see others doing better than them. They aspire to be something they’re not, when they should really focus on themselves instead of other people who may be lying online about how perfect their lives are.

It can also induce procrastination as people increase their time spent on social media platforms. Many online activities promise instant gratifications and pleasurable experiences and should thus be particularly attractive to procrastinators seeking mood optimization when facing an aversive or difficult task Procrastinators essentially use Social Media as a scapegoat from the tasks they perceive as hard and or time consuming. Social Media helps them take their mind off what they have to do, but in return causes them to lose sleep and induce stress as they try to get everything done at last minute.

Although social media has several negative impacts, it can positively affect relationships. Many people use social networking sites to keep in touch with old friends and family. Roughly seven in ten users under the age of fifty say that staying in touch with current friends is a major reason they use online social platforms, and just over half say that reconnecting with old friends is equally important. It’s healthy to keep in touch with friends, as well as develop stronger bonds with the relationships you deal with in your daily life.

Overall, social media has impacted the lives of millions, for better or for worse.

Knowledge to the People

To take a twist on what Uncle Ben from Spider-man said, with great knowledge comes great responsibility! Democratization of Knowledge can be seen as a positive addition to our society, as it allows everyone to take information into their own hands and put it to good use.

In today’s society, everyone is able to know anything they so choose, instead of back in the olden days when only a high group of elites had access to information. Larry Sanger, a co-founder of Wikipedia, stated that “A giant, open, global conversation has just begun – one that will live on for the rest of human history – and its potential for good is tremendous.” He takes into account how the common people now have the high ground in terms of access to information, thus sparking more significant conversations.

Democratization of knowledge also helps in terms of relationships, especially when it comes down to sexually transmitted diseases. Years ago people were horrified at the idea of gaining an STD, or they would point a finger towards the LGBT community saying only they could contract them.

Nowadays, everyone has access to online medical information regarding STDs and STIs, to which they can use to their advantage. They can make sure they have no signs of them, as well as gain valuable knowledge on how they are contracted.

Overall, Democratization of Knowledge has been a huge development in our society, and has affected it for the greater good. Now, here’s a some-what comedic video about knowledge made by a business man:

Ink on the Skin and in the Court Room

Warner Brothers talking to Judge Perry.

Warner Brothers may have thought they were being clever when they snuck in that comedic placement of Mike Tyson’s tattoo, but they are sadly mistaken. Now they should have to pay the price, both figuratively and literally.

S. Victor Whitmill, owner of Paradox Studio of Dermagraphics, filed a lawsuit against the entertainment company for using his artwork without his permission. Warner Bros. displayed his tattoo work, famously known as Mike Tyson’s face tattoo, within their movie Hangover II. With the tattoo being a prominent feature to the movie’s comedic story line, Whitmill deserves a cut of the movies revenue for his work on the big screen.

Within the court document, it states that “Mr. Tyson signed a release form acknowledging that all artwork, sketches and drawings related to [his] tattoo and any photographs of [his] tattoo are property of Paradox-Studio of Dermagraphics”. With Whitmill being the owner of the company, he has every right to sue Warner Brothers for not contacting him before using his copyrighted art.

Some may argue that the tattoo placement within the movie is portrayed with “fair use“. However, the two designs are too close for comfort. As shown in the image above, the tattoos are seemingly identical, aside from the fact of a few minor changes.

Catherine Perry, the judge on the case of Whitmill v. Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., 4:11-cv-00752 (E.D. Mo.), even stated herself that Whitmill had a “strong likelihood of prevailing on the merits for copyright infringement” and that most of the arguments put forward by Warner Brothers were “just silly.” She felt that Whitmill had the right to take the entertainment company to court, especially since the tattoo was almost identical to the actual piece, and can’t necessarily be deemed as a parody.

S. Victor Whitmill should be paid double the amount he was given by Mike Tyson for his artwork that was displayed within the movie, due to the fact that it possesses copyright protection. Warner Bros. should’ve contacted the tattoo artist before they made the movie so that this conflict could’ve been avoided.

Marriage & Attractive Homeworkers: A Cocktail for Disaster

Are you and your spouse thinking about bringing an attractive homeworker into your home? Well then think again, because attraction can lead to separation.

People can argue that it doesn’t matter whether the homeworker is attractive or not as long as they’re the best for the job. However, there are so many downsides to bringing in someone that is better looking, and that married couples should try to avoid inviting an attractive homeworker into their homes altogether. You’ll never know what could happen behind closed doors.

Bringing an attractive homeworker into your house can produce problems, such as infidelity and feelings of insecurity. How would you feel to see your spouse watching a hot person prancing around your house doing your dirty work? You’d probably start to feel insecure about yourself and try to spice up your looks in order to win back your partner’s attention.

The homeworker themselves could come in with horrible intentions for the family as well. It’s psychologically proven that people are attracted to those who have a ring on their finger. Whether it be a woman diving in for the thrill of it or a male craving an ego-boost, people tend to seek dangerous relationships like these. That’s why you should always do a test run when you’re bringing someone into your home, which can allow you to discover their true intentions.

Society has also begun to advertise these types of affairs through pornographic websites, and comedy skits treating the topic like it’s a used tissue. This can leave people to feel as if having an affair with their homeworkers is sexy, and they’ll feel obligated to try it, or they just feel desensitized to the subject altogether and not care about the results of their actions.

Situations like these have also made headlines on popular news sites. For example, Lauren Weedman, an actress on the HBO television series Looking, experienced the dark side of hiring an attractive homeworker. Her husband, Jeff Weatherford, ended up having an affair with their young beautiful nanny. Weedman states that “It’s every woman’s nightmare, and it can happen to anyone — just look at Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.”

She also discusses within the interview that her ex-husband is still in a relationship with the nanny. Seeing someone we love be committed to someone they left us for can be hard, especially when cheating is involved. However, Weedman believes that the situation actually pulled her out of a negative relationship.

Overall, it seems that inviting these beautiful human beings into our homes can end up turning things ugly. So, married couples should stick to finding help from people they don’t have an attraction to.
